Saw an interesting art exhibit today...

Real/Surreal: Selections from the Whitney Museum of American Art

One of the paintings included in the exhibit was done by Marsden Hartley, a native of Maine. (Does the first name ring a bell?)

This was the painting:

It screamed "Stephen King" before I even looked at the artist's name or where he was from.

He was born in 1877 and when he was young, took his mother's maiden name as his first name. He died in 1943, so he had absolutely nothing to do with using 'Salem's Lot as inspiration for his name.

Truth be told, I was more in love with John Wilde sketches and paintings, Andreas Feininger photography, and Thomas Hart Benton etchings than anything else.
