My sister just found out she's being laid off. Actually her whole department is being laid off, which is even worse because now everyone's going to be competing for jobs elsewhere. She is a single mother so she is the sole source of income at her household.

To make matters worse, she works for a university that her son planned on attending the this fall, with his tuition paid for as a free benefit to children of employees. Now that she's being laid off, he has been told he will not be getting that free tuition. This represents over $33,000 in lost tuition benefits per year. He had not applied to any other universities so he has no backup plan.

My sister is trying to get some kind of employment with the university so her son can still attend this fall. She has until May 31st and then she's done. I have offered to help out with food & utility bills and the like if she can't find a job after that, but as for that college tuition there's only so much I can do. I sure hope things work out for her and her son.

Just wanted to get that off my chest and ask people to send positive vibes her way!

Will be holding your sister in positive thoughts, and manifesting a job with the university.

Certainly does not sound fair that children of employees, who planned to attend the university, be in reality, punished due to the lay off. Acceptance into a university or college is a long process and her son has little time to readjust his plans. Most slots are already filled at other institutions. Least the university should do would be to honor the incoming Fall students for the first year.

Please keep us posted, Bob. Some inner peace for you as you take on the additional stress.

fushingfeef - I will say a prayer for your sis

(Maybe your nephew could delay his educational upgrades for one year until things improve?)

So sorry to hear this - it must be so stressful for everyone

((FF's sis and nephew)) Good thoughts their way. And as Neesy suggested, as a backup plan, maybe he could attend a local community college, living at home for a year. Work with a counselor, so that his credits there will transfer to the college of his choice when he is able.

((CYB)) Good thoughts to you and your coworkers, as well.

Sending out positive vibes to your sister.
I know what this is like. I work for a huge company that is laying off people left and right and may just be going under completely this year. Lots of tension, frustration and sadness in my workplace these days.
....I can't employ you old buddy, but what little Tracy and I have is yours-if things go South.....
