    CriticAndProud What's wrong with Idris?

How many of the guards knew that John was innocent, other than Paul, if any ? They are all visibly distressed when John is dying, so I wonder if Paul told any of the other three that helped take John to heal the warden's wife ?

I can't remember what happened in the movie, but I do believe that in the book he talked to his especial friends about John's situation. As far as I remember, they knew most of what Paul learned/intuited.

Ah, makes sense. That doesn't happen in the movie onscreen, at least not the version I watched, but their reactions seemed to imply they knew.

I think they all knew everything... only the warden was left out of that part.

    do1you9love? Happy to be here!

Yes in the book Paul has the main guards over for lunch and talks through all he suspects. Like Flake said the warden was spared that burden.

That story, both on paper and screen... broke (and filled) my heart.

I loved the movie and the book. John Coffey was just such a wonderful character.

Those pictures are making me sad :( - this was the BEST and most honest adaption (on par with Shawshank) of SK's books - IMHO! Amazing book, amazing movie. I am slightly biased - pretty big Tom Hanks fan;;D

I love this movie so much but I have a hard time watching it now that Michael Clarke Duncan is gone. It's rough. Such a loss.

Isn't there a scene in the movie where Hanks chracter has everyone (except the warden) over for a picnic and he tells them what's going on and that he wants to take John to the warden's house to cure the wife? I thought at that point Hanks character had either told all of them before about John's powers and of his innocence or was telling them at the picnic. You all do realize that John Coffey's initials weren't an accident, right? JC- John Coffey & Jesus Christ.

I re-watched it about a week after Michael died and, man, it was so hard to get through it. He did an amazing job in that film!

Actually they did have the diner scene in the movie too. And in fact they did have a lot of support and respect for Edgecomb at the very least because they supported and helped him with Percy.

And of course, on the electric chair at his execution, they said "Look at us John, we don't hate you.".
