....that is a tremendous memory and just solidifies his reputation as an icon of the people....Many years ago (the days when dinosaurs walked the earth, the late 1970s) I was trying to put together a sci-fi con in Vegas (would've been the 1st major one) and Stan Lee was one of our invitees. I'd put down my phone# for contact info when I sent out the invitations but didn't think anything of it. We invited authors, actors and comic book folk.
Imagine my surprise when one day I answered the phone and Stan Lee was on the other end! We had a lovely chat (once the fangirl in the back of my mind stopped squealing) and, when I told him we weren't doing well and wouldn't be likely to hold the con, he was so supportive. We talked for about 15 minutes about sci-fi, comics and life. He was fun to talk to and put me at ease right away. I'll never forget that he not only took the time to call but that he took more time to have a conversation and offer encouragement.
Blessed Be, Stan Lee. Excelsior!
