I just saw that Ms. Mod has accompanied Mr. King to Europe. But as I don't know how you look, Ms. Mod, I don't know if I saw you in Hamburg, or not... I hope you had a good time! Mit Schlag, or without
I am horrible at writing "show reports", but I will try to share my experience with you all. First of all, hearing and seeing Mr. King live, has been a strong wish for me, for years. Just a couple of months before the Hamburg date was announced, I was trying to find out where/when he would speak in the US, and checking flights. At that point, every flight was too expensive, so I dropped it. You can imagine my joy when the Hamburg date was announced!
The room had 2020 seats, and although I had good seats, I was a bit worried that the crowd would be too big for Mr. King to be comfortable. But, when he came on stage, he was smiling and joking, and when he got tired of the photographers, he showed them his behind
First, he talked about The Shining. A german journalist asked him questions, and he answered honestly and with humor. He also said he loved being in Germany, because of the pastries and that he could get whipped cream on everything. He even learned how to order it in German "mit Schlag". And he insisted that the German title for "It", which is "Es" is much more scary sounding than the english title. He was extremely charming, and although he said that being in front of the crowd like that scared him a lot, it was impossible for me to see that he was scared. He just told stories and talked like we were all close friends.
Then, he read from Doctor Sleep. It was from the first time we see Danny helping someone cross over, and it was very touching.
The Q/A continued, now with questions that had been submittet to facebook or twitter. When asked if he ever have nightmares about his own characters, he replied: I don't have many nightmares, because I write and get all that stuff out. Then you buy the books, and YOU get nightmares. So it all works out perfectly!
The journalist doing the Q/A was good at letting him finish his answers and not interrupt - and they kept the translations to a minimum, so it didn't take up much of the time.
But, at one point, the journalist interrupted Mr. King, and Mr. King said (with a laugh) "I am just going to say one more thing, then you can translate your a** off!"
The guy who reads the German audiobook was there, and he read a bit for those who didn't understand english so well. He is a celebrity in Germany, so the Germans were happy to see him, too. Mr. King said he enjoyed the reading, even though he can't understand, he hears the music.
Then, he told us an idea he has for a new story, that he thought of in Paris just a few days earlier. What an honor!
He spent 2 hours with us, and of course, for us in the room, it went too fast.
I could probably go on and on and on, but I will leave it at this. It was a wonderful evening, and for those of you who haven't seen him yet - if you get a chance, take it.
THANK YOU SAI KING FOR COMING TO EUROPE!! <3
Thank you!Glad to hear you had a good time! Have not had any schlag but enough other sweets to make up for it--I know I've gained weight!
I was sitting a couple rows up from the front. You may have seen me when the program was about to end as we had to go up the side of the stage to get to the Green Room and then the back entrance to leave with Steve. There's a picture of me with Steve at Le Louvre in this thread.
Thanks to you too Jordan - I'll watch later - have to sign off soon
Steve has his own Mini Me!!! On a serious note, I am so happy that folks in Europe got to see our beloved author! It's nice to see that he isn't just a local phenominom, but a world-wide sensation. I hope that he (and our beloved Marsha) have been having the time of their lives over there.......but come back to us- we miss you!I really did! I am still floating on clouds
I wasn't able to get any really good pics, but here is one - at least it gives you an impression.
THANK YOU, Sir Bev, for this. What a wonderful interview, I learned so much!
