When Paul Sheldon threw the old heavy typewriter at Annie's back (he was aiming for her head) and she was pinned to the floor from the weight of it.

This is sort of a stretch - but when Big Driver raped and sodomized the female writer. (I guess you could call that a blunt instrument??) She did not die from it but she was quite traumatized by the assault.

Okay - never mind - I think the answer to my question was up above in the link. Perhaps no one else has compared the Stand to an epic novel like LOTR.
