The Last Rung on the Ladder. I was about 13 when I read it, and the concept of death was still abstract, much less that some one could cheat death and later be sorry about that. When the sister says something like,
"Maybe it would have been better if you didn't put the hay down,"
it stopped me in my tracks and made me think about a very bad road I was just headed down. It took a while, but that story stuck in my head and eventually I decided I didn't want to be the one wishing life had just stopped as a kid.

Personal and a bit long, but… yeah. That's what and why.

pretty good thanks! hope you've been well. :) just kinda pluggin away over here. gotta get up at 4 tomorrow., working in produce department., they need their fruit cut up and apparently people come to the store at 6 am to get it! crazy fruit eating people! ;) I better hit the hay. I'll try to stop by tomorrow!
