Probably heard something about this one. The details make it worth another review, the case of David John Farnell, an Australian man who sponsored a foreign national woman to join him and marry. The woman turned out to be sterile and unable to get pregnant. The husband decided to hire a surrogate mother in Thailand to inseminate his sperm in her ovary for about 15,000 dollars but only received about 5,500 dollars.
After a difficult pregnancy she gave birth to twins. One has Downs Syndrome, other one full healthy. The father chose to take the healthy baby and left the other with Downs Syndrome behind with the Thai lady already a single mother. Still, she loved both kids and cared for the left baby.
This year, 2014 August, the media got hold of the story and international outrage was the result. Farnell claimed to have not been informed of the twin birth and was forced to prove himself by returning to Thailand for Gammy, the Downs twin. He took his wife and the healthy twin with him this time arriving just when Thailand military began a crackdown on surrogacy. They left Thailand after the ruling military leader permitted leniency. They were the third Australian couple to leave with babies born via surrogates since the ruling military revealed they were fast tracking new surrogacy laws.
There are thousands in Australia engaged in surrogacy arrangements with ladies in Thailand and India.
