Don't know about sweepstakes but i remember a dig i was working on many years back. It was not particularly eventful so to cheer everyone up a little every second week there was a lottery and everyone contributed and the winner got a bottle of wine and something to eat to take home for the weekend. During the dig we had 5 lotteries and i won four of them. I promise you i didn't cheat, i was not handling that at all. But that is the only time I have been lucky in a lottery. A bit to lucky i think, some of my coworkers started to luck suspiciuos. At least after the third time i won.

The likelihood of winning certain sweepstakes is almost exactly the same as not playing them. But there are other games which are fun, inexpensive, and can pay off as in Kurben's case and my own. In one of the shipyards we had a weekly poker pool. It cost a dollar to enter. The worker whose paycheck number amounted to the best poker hand won. I won four times within a few weeks, about $40 each time. It was fun!
