Welcome, Ariel. Thank you for your touching and eloquent post. It shows that you have the 'chops' to be a writer. I urge you to continue reading Mr. King's works. You might want to start with something more 'mainstream', such as the 4 novellas in Different Season's, the novel Delores Claiborne (in which King used his own mother's 'voice' to tell the tale very powerfully) or possibly one of his short story collections such as Night Shift (there is a very heart-felt story in there called The Woman In The Room). I have been reading King since the late 70's and haven't looked back since. He is much more than a 'horror' writer. Every single one of his stories have love as their basis somewhere. Simple love. Sounds crazy for a 'horror' writer to be described that way, but it's true. His works have 'heart and substance'. No other writer that I've read is able to capture local/time/character as quickly as King does. As a gay man myself, I have found that King himself (as a writer and as a man) has evolved into an all-inclusive writer who is able to portray many different characters in his works and instills them with dignity. Please let us know how you feel about his works after you're been able to read a few more of his works.
