Congratulations! Any wedding date set yet?
No - they have been going out for almost two years. I think they will try getting an apartment together first. (he called his brother in Edmonton and his Dad in Toronto - they both asked the same question).

Wow - once my son moves out I will probably have 'empty nest syndrome'.

I will have to get a dog for companionship when Andy is up North! :dog:

This ring is very similar to the one she got - a marquise diamond in the same setting as this one.

That looks a lot like my ring! Tell her to watch the side prongs--they wear down pretty fast (and have to be rebuilt) if she wears it all the time. I almost lost my diamond once because I hadn't noticed how worn the prongs were getting to be.

Well, actually the ring is older than my son - it was all sort of impromptu the way it happened.

They have been saying they want to have children and live together (she is currently living with a foster family).

My son and his fiancee are both special needs but high functioning, so he could not actually afford a new ring. The ring she now has is the same one that Josh's father, Frank, bought me back in 1985 - I was actually pregnant with Josh at the time .

He got down on one knee and said "Can you be my wife?"

Gee - I hope all this is not TMI - don't want to 'over-share' but this is a turning point in both their lives.

Wow. Not TMI at all--I'm so happy for them (and you, by extension :D)! Do you feel confident about them being together in their own home?

:cheerful: oh Grandpa - I felt this way when I had to make a speech in front of a whole bunch of people when I was about 13.
If we ever get to meet in person I will give you a hug (now yer scared, right?) :grey::wink:

Weirdly enough, I make plenty of speeches, or at least public speaking. But to be honest, I'm in a low-grade panic the whole time.

Scared? Nahh.... well, maybe just a little. I'm not a hugger, but I've gotten used to them over the years. I rarely, if ever, initiate. And with a few select people, it seems almost natural.

Well yes and no - they will need social supports, of course, which are already in place - he met her at Special Olympics bowling and their coach actually set them up together. Here is a photo from yesterday:

Oh yeah - that is not the real ring - the real diamond ring was too small for her so I let her wear my cubic zirconium 30 dollar special I bought at The Forks, for now.

Andy is taking them to the jewelers today to get the proper ring resized!

That's wonderful Neesy! I have had the pleasure of volunteering with Special Olympics for about 5 years with my company. It has been so inspiring to see the accomplishments some of the athletes can achieve.

Best wishes to the happy couple and cheers to you and Andy for providing the support they need.
