As I get older, I try to refrain from suggesting somebody do something, as in "That's awesome, but what you should do is...". It bugs me sometimes when people do it to me, so I can understand how others get irritated when I engage the practice. Therefore, do not consider this a suggestion, or a "you know what you should do" exercise. Instead, just consider it a wish.
I would love to see a show called "The Kings of Horror." Like the "Masters of Horrors" series, or "Tales from the Darkside," it would be an anthology. What would set it apart, though, is that it would be entirely written by the Kings.
Imagine if Stephen King, Tabitha King, Owen King, Joe Hill, and Naomi King wrote episodes of such a series. Imagine if there were collaborations between different members of the family. Imagine if, it weren't possible for each episode to be written entirely by a King, a King could come up with a story idea/treatment and then collaborate with another writer (imagine "The Beast of Bangor" written by Stephen King and Bev Vincent, or "The Haunted Limited Edition" by Joe Hill and Richard Chizmar).
I love things like "Creepshow" and "Tales from the Crypt. " I could see the King house in Bangor serving as the opening shot, and the place where the intros to the episodes are filmed (by the way, those episode titles I supplied in the preceding paragraph are just examples I came up with off the top of my head, of course I realize they sound terrible).
I see the branding possibilities, and I can see this playing on channels like HBO, Showtime, maybe even AMC. Why would Mr. King want to do something like this? Besides a probable continued love of horror anthologies, both the filmed and print kinds, he might enjoy creating a platform for his family to explore their creative impulses on a major stage.
I think this would be an interesting experiment, and I've read that Joe Hill is working on a new "Tales from the Darkside" series, so there is precedent, perhaps.
Anyway, if it is possible to forward this to Mr. King, or Mr. King's representatives, it would be appreciated. If not, that's okay, too. Would love to know what the group thinks of this.
