Any of you guys following it? It's a great show, and I'm noticing a lot of connections to The Stand. First there's Wayne, who seems like a Randall Flaggish type, and then there was the smiley on the cell-phone. Then the last episode featured the song "Don't dream it's over", which was on ABC's The Stand mini-series.

I know Damon Lindelof is a huge fan of Stephen King, and it's great that he manages to weave those little details into the plot.

You guys should definetly check it out.

It's on HBO -- I like it a lot. I especially liked the two single-character episodes -- the one about the minister and the one about Nora Durst. I don't expect any solid answers from this show. It's more about how people can be tipped permanently off balance when something inexplicable happens on a grand scale.

They were by far some of the best episodes. I would even say they were the best episodes of any tv show over the last year. The preacher episode felt like a good Twilight Zone episode.

The book upon which it is based (it was Damon Lindelof's idea to adapt it) finishes up open-ended, without an explanation as to why the great disappearance of so many happened... Lindelof of course isn't saying whether he'll bring more of an explanation to the story or not....

We watched the pilot the other night. Gf immediately said 'It's going to be like Lost; meander on with no real idea of where it wants to end up, and the ending they do choose will be crap'.
I saw Lindelof's name pop up and said 'Funny you should say that...'

I'm still trying to forgive him - and Sir Ridley - for what he (they) did with Prometheus.

It has just started in the UK last week. The adverts for it have peaked my interest a good bit. I haven't seen it yet, it's on Sky On Demand for 3 more weeks (1st episode), so I think I will give it a shot. I don't watch many tv shows, most of them don't really interest me, never saw major popular ones like Lost, Breaking Bad, Broadwalk Empire, Supernatural, Dexter etc. The last one I watched from start to finish was Heroes, and even then, I started watching it online after the 1st season had finished. And that didn't even end, it was cancelled.

It did get me thinking, has Stephen King ever written a rapture story? A proper rapture I mean - boom, they're gone - not like a pandemic wipe out?

The question is, why hasn't season 1 been released to DVD yet?

I absolutely love, love, love this show! Yes, every bit as much as LOST. Damon Lindelof, in the special features, acknowledges that he's a polarizing writer and has decided to embrace it for The Leftovers. And I say, good. I'm glad. I advocated this since the beginning of season three of LOST on the show-supported fan site The Fuselage. Damon should embrace his inner Lindelof fully and just go hog-wild. And on this show, with the eager assistance of author Tom Perrotta he does. I'm actually happy with the season's ending for closure to the story... not nearly as open-ended as I was thinking it would be. Still it will be interesting to see where season two goes. The Guilty Remant and thier cigarettes, Father Matt, two crazy sheriffs: Kevin and his dad, a mom and daughter cult connection, a baby right out of the womb (holy crap! that makes me think about the stories I read about psychic surgeons in South America who supposedly perfomed abortions by the laying on of hands) other cults, great music, wild party phone apps, the Carnivale-like title sequence and just about everything else thrown in along with the kitchen sink....

The closest was The Langoliers, which was written before Left Behind series.

There was The Reaper's Image where people looked into a large diamond on display, and whoever saw the reaper's image in it soon after disappeared without a trace .... not large scale, but still cool and creepy ....
