I'm not on the Daryl train (I think he has to die, for a number of story related reasons--don't murtilate me, Lepplady! I really do like Reedus quite a bit!), but I'm the first to say that if they kill Rick I'm done. Not because of the actor, but because it would violate the story arc--it would look like a stunt (like the episode where they killed Lori and T-Dog) done for shock value rather than to serve the story.

I totally agree with you on this about Rick. In the comics and show, I feel like Rick is the driving force. His growth and character development is the one that I enjoy the most and continue to see/read.

It would probably make sense to kill Daryl. But if they do, they kill the show. Rick, Daryl, Judith, and to a lesser extent, Carl. Those are the characters that if they kill them, the show probably wouldn't recover. Michonne almost makes the list, but not quite. Same with Carol. Everybody else is expendable.

I'm thinking we need some new blood. We need a new character to fall in love with. Please, not some cookie-cutter blonde bomshell. Maybe they could get Liam Neeson to sign on. ...no?

Wouldn't that be amazing? lol

It seems to me that he's been set up from the beginning to die. He's the Bad Boy Turned Good, and they never make it. That character always dies--heroically, mind you--and always as sacrifice for others.

Stoooooooooopit!
*hitch, sob... pit-of-gut pain*

I'm so sorry. Just looking at it from a story perspective. The only way to keep him around indefinitely is to make him a baddie--a real one this time. Otherwise, he'll peter out. What is there to do with him as a character once he has completely redeemed himself of his past sins? He becomes irrelevant, unless he changes. In Daryl's case, he's done bad, he's done good, so the only way to go is back to bad. Do I want to see that? Heck no. It would break my vulnerable little heart (I am a sucker for the Bad Guy Gone Good). He becomes Jack Torrence then, right? And even Jack had to be redeemed at the end for his arc to be satisfying. I guess they can keep Daryl around like that for longer… but it will feel like a stunt. Regardless, Jack had to die, and so does Daryl. I'll hate to see it, but I bet I'll be doing that crylaughing proud face thingy (I'm the ideal reader/watcher. I can see the trope coming, but if it's done well I don't care at all.)
