Just finished episode one. HIGHLY impressed! I want more more more!
I've learned to not get too hopeful or enthusiastic about adaptations of King's works for TV or movies. Oh I am such a liar! I still get excited, but I've learned to not expect to like them anywhere near as much as the book. Experience is a good teacher. After saying all that, 11.22.63 blew me away last night. Call me impressed.
Did anyone watch the second episode? It was spot on. I'm hooked.
I didn't notice the mumbling thing! Perhaps because I watch everything with closed captions/subtitles, which drive some of my friends nuts... But ditto about the book. There's only one time I can recall that I didn't prefer Sai King's written story over the movie & that was "The Mist".After 6 eps, I can say it's...OK. Just that. OK. I like the way the title sequence was done, I like the period detail (though I can't speak as to authenticity; I was still 10 years shy of making my entrance into the world in 1963). I don't mind the actors, though I wish the woman playing Sadie would SPEAK UP A BIT. Everyone else is there being perfectly fine, she turns up and it's "*mumble mumble mumble, mumble mumble* Jake". What's worse is that she seems to encourage James Franco into mumblespeak too. I'm sure I've lost all kinds of nuance and detail in their scenes together.
Still prefer the book, but it's not bad.

I'd be tempted to say that it may just be down to the way it's broadcast here, but it really is just her (and JF in some of their scenes together). Everyone else comes over clear as a bell.
Either that or I'm losing my hearing at a certain pitch.
As for The Mist, I love both. A lot of people hated the movie ending, but I thought it was more thought-provoking and worked for the medium.
I definitely have had no problems hearing anything said as broadcast here in the UK. I do know Sarah Gadon is Canadian so it could be down to the different accent being used. Her English accent when she played Princess Elizabeth in the Night Out film set on VE day was pretty good; she does seem to be good at different accents.Maybe it's just the actress not doing a great job of a Texas-southern-accent? I've only ever read (and re-read) "The Mist" as published in "Skeleton Crew"; I liked the movie version of it because the ending was so unexpected & horrific.
I've been pondering looking her up at IMDB & watching some of her other films just because Mr. Nobody has gotten my curiosity piqued.I definitely have had no problems hearing anything said as broadcast here in the UK. As for the mist, never seen it so can't comment.
Mr. Nobody, you made me laugh right out loud (because I can relate). :-D Maybe her southern-accent-voice *is* on some weird frequency that your TV is allergic to or that requires surround speakers.Ah well. Maybe I'll just have to turn the telly up a bit whenever she appears on screen. As I said, though, everyone else's delivery is fine as it is, so I'll have to remember to turn it down again once she's off-screen to AVOID EVERYBODY YELLING and the music blasting me into hyperspace.
I suppose it could all be down to something getting lost at certain pitches/frequencies because, while our TV is only a couple of years old (and was mid-range, so not cheap!), we don't have surround sound speakers all over the place or a soundbar. Either that or it's me lugs beginning to fail (possible, given the amount of loud rock music I've poured into them over the years).
