On his shell he holds the earth.
It didn't show on the big screen in the park? I guess all those people around him weren't looking at themselves on the screen, then.
Whatever.
I have no idea. All I know is what the article states about who he's suing, which is not the park, the big screen, or the announcers at the park.

What did they say about him that is offensive? From the video, not from the lawsuit.
It's not the specific things that were said, it's the fact that he was asleep, the camera stayed on him for a while and the commentators' cavalier attitude toward him. There is no reason for this to happen. Show something else. Talk about something else. It's ESPN's grab at "reality" TV. "Hey! Let's make fun of this guy! That's what we do for entertainment these days! Hahahahah!!!" Not funny. At all. I get uncomfortable watching that video. I feel bad for the guy. Sorry, but call me old school and a sap.

I don't agree with the lawsuit but I also do not think ESPN's cameramen should have shown him for so long and for the commentators to talk about him like they did. I don;t think this would have happened, say, 10 years ago. I blame social media for lowering the bar on what is respectful of a person in a public situation. I'd be upset too if I were him.

I don't agree with the commentators talking smack about him, but to the point of a defamation lawsuit? No. You and I agree on this one. I still say "boo hoo", though...he set himself up for public ridicule in this day and age of electronica because he fell asleep at a game that he knew would be televised. This wasn't repeated offenses of bullying; it was poor taste on the part of ESPN and their employees. I hope they publicly apologize to him, but if he goes forward with the lawsuit, I still hope the judge throws it out - because it IS frivolous. It's another gateway lawsuit to all kinds of related lawsuits that will tie up the courts with ridiculosity.

It's been that way at sporting events as long as I can remember. The cameras scan the crowd and stop on individuals. If they catch people doing something embarrassing, they keep the camera on them. ( No longer allowed to scan the rooms over looking the field at the Dome in Toronto anymore though.) finding someone doing something embarrassing usually goes on the big screen, followed by the individual seeing themself...spilling a drink, jumping out of the way of a ball. It's been a part of sporting events since they've been televised.

I think his family/coworkers teased him. And to be honest...I would tease a friend if they were caught sleeping through the game. But, my friends would look embarrassed and laugh.

Someone mentioned (in this thread) about bullying and memes. I have gotten quite disgusted with where some of them have gone. After seeing a few when Prince George was born I actually called people out on it on Facebook. How is posting a picture changing a newborn babies face for that of his grandfather...how is that different that bullying any other new parents? One person responded that she doesn't like the royal family. OK, got that, but making fun of their new born baby....world-wide....that is bullying. Why is it OK to bully them? And she said it was OK because she doesn't like them. Which is exactly what bullying is! So, since I insist my son unfriend cyber-bullies...I unfriended her (letting her know exactly why).

So, I guess we each have our different "line" of what is and isn't bullying. If the announcers said what he's accusing I would call it bullying. But what is in the clip, in my opinion is not.

Well said. bullying comes in many forms and none of them are acceptable.

That guy, though? He needs to let it go. He's only going to embarrass himself further. If he was smart, he'd be selling tee shirts of himself sleeping with the words "That game sucked that bad" on it or something. Poke fun at himself AND make a few extra bucks.

But, they made fun of him.

No they didn't. The fun was at his expense after the video hit the internet and the trolls commenting started in on him. They are the ones who called him fatty and other things. John Kruk and Don Schulman of ESPN really aren't that stupid. My feeling is that this guy found a shyster lawyer and this will go no where.

Well, it was a Red Sox / Yankees game. They usually take forever and a day to play. Don't blame the guy for falling asleep. My reaction to both of those teams this year is YAWN...........

Anyways, the lawsuit is frivolous. However, that doesn't mean he won't win a crap ton of money in today's overly litigious society. Especially in NY. Courts there are just as wackadoodle liberal as they are in my home state of MA. Besides, look at the McDonald's hot coffee lawsuit. That had no business making it to trial either. That plaintiff made a crap ton of money for being too stupid to realize that hot liquid will burn you.

I studied that case in a business law class for my MBA. If you actually look into and don't just buy the media hype, that case was totally valid and that woman should have won.

The Actual Facts about the Mcdonalds' Coffee Case

It's really a shame that so many people easily judge others without all of the facts.

THANK YOU SHASTA. I hate when this gets tossed into discussions of frivolous cases.

What did they say about him that is offensive? From the video, not from the lawsuit.
From what I heard, they pointed him out, wondered if he'd slept through a home run earlier, and made fun of the guy sitting next to him. They actually ripped that guy more than the snoozer, saying that he didn't wake his buddy up (if that was his buddy) so he wouldn't have to share his chicken fingers, as he was happily munching away on them. Nothing scandalous, nothing horrible. Commentators aren't idiots. They're not about to open themselves or their network up to a multimillion dollar lawsuit. Not a REAL one.

I'm upset that people pointed out that I was sleeping. They made me look bad in public.

Just for that, I'll sue them for $10 million. I'll look much better in public then.
Hahaha!

That was really funny.

You know what would have been a great alternative to a lawsuit? A nice op ed that talks about how it made him feel, why he felt picked on, and why he felt it was wrong. Maybe that would have actually taught someone that people have feelings and why those feelings can be triggered, even innocently.
