(I am so immature...)
Apparently we all are....look at this thread!(I am so immature...)
Perhaps not ALL of us are immature......there are one or two scholars to balance us out...OK!! Order in the classroom. It was named after Ouranos, A greek sky god (in its latin form that became Uranus). It was a big debate at the time of what the planet should be called. Its finder, the astronomer Herschel thought that the time for naming planets after roman gods was over so he wanted to name it after the british King at the time, George. Outside Britain this was not popular so instead Herschel, after its discoverer was suggested. That wasn't a hit either so a certain guy named Bode suggested Uranus. The reasoning was that since the planet inside was named Saturn, the father of Jupiter. The New planet should be named after the father of Saturn, Ouranos in the greek form. Hence the name. Perhaps they should have thought another time.....
Careful... you're going to become the butt of every joke at this rate. Thanks Kuben. That is surely going to create more buzz around Uranus!
