What Are The Reasons For Some Of The Sk Stories Can´t Be Adapt To Our Culture? Part 1

I don´t know for you as americans but for me as a mexican, I´ve been thinking for a long time:
what are the reasons or why a superhero, or the tales of Hollywood movies or even some of the Stephen King´s stories can´t be adapt to our culture and will never be the same if someone tries to fit it to our culture?

• I mean, with all the respective elements of our society and country. Sometimes I used to think that if someone tries it, it will be a comic adaptation instead of create an environment of real atmosphere, almost palpable.
• What do you think about it? It doesn´t matter your nationality, maybe someday you thinked the same or you think about it.
• in a few words later, I will explain in my humble opinion, the reasons for which I consider, why it can´t be the same and that will be our awful truth.

My sense of humor it always has been the type that sees the reality from a wide perspective.And I mean, I´m capable to accept the reality , the circunstances of the society and also of the cultures; and instead of getting mad (like other people does) I can find the humor in that, instead of reacts with anger.

• Some writer wrote(and I´ll be damned if I can´t remember his/her name , but I can´t remember it in this moment) so I will paraphrase it: "The best literature always takes the risk to be a mirror where the society can recognize itself".

For me, I´ll summarize it in one phrase "La verdad es un hábito terrible, y todos quieren escucharla o saberla, pero una vez que se las dices, no quieren entenderla" and that means in english "The truth it´s an awful habit, everybody wants to hear it or know it, but once that someone say it, the people don´t want to face it and obviously they refuse it".

• And for the mexican society most of the times it´s like that . It´s so obvious , just like this joke:"There´s 2 buckets,one blue and one green. Each one containing crabs. The crabs of the blue bucket are americans and those from the green one are mexicans. If you don´t know this detail of their respective nationality. How do you recognize the crap´s nationality?" the answer it´s simple: When you take a look of the blue bucket all the crabs will he helping each other to form a ladder and climb over each one to reach the edge and out.And once that someone did it,it helps the others to go out. But when you notice the activity of the green bucket it´s like this: "No one is organized to help others or even to agree to talk and try to face the problem. Because each one is trying to reach the edge,no matter if spend over the others without help them".

It´s sad but it´s true. There´s so many people with that attitude.....

Are you saying, Alejandro...when you say "our culture" are you differentiating between Mexican and Yankee cultures? Having read some of the writers from south of the border, one thing I notice is their sense of humor...Can't think of any concrete examples at the moment...I'd have to look at some of my indexes to give an example of what I mean. Christ is hanging on the cross...now...too, in another read, their sense of time was interesting. Not in the past, it is happening now. They did/do not think of time as we in the States think of time.

Here's a quote I like that goes along somewhat with the quote you posted, this one from Flannery O'Connor: The truth does not change according to our ability to stomach it. I think maybe Ms O'Connor's sense-of-humor most closely matches some of the humor I've read from those south of us. I like you crab analogy. Here's one from B Traven, his story, The Death Ship...(I think Traven spent some time in Mexico)...: "Ordinary people can never fall over the walls, because they never dare climb high enough to see what is beyond the walls." But in the end, I don't see the kind of unity in the crab bucket here in the States...or as Styron wrote in his A Tidewater Morning: ...we each devise our means of escape from the intolerable...
Too many put on whatever version of sheet fits them and they begin to holler at the house...at whatever neighbor is making too much disturbance...we live on ribbon roads and far too many put as much space between their self and the next. Oh la.

Ciao Walter Oobleck!Thank you for answer my message. I recently I read your message and I´ll reply it =)You are right in your point of view and also with truth that it´s inside your words. In my opinion there´s so many things that here in Mexico the stories can´t be the same, and I mean, some of them are because there is no infrastructure to produce it. But there are others that not only concerned with money(I would like to expose my opinion with more details in the second part of this post.) and those are the ones that I identify as the problem .Sooner I´ll write that part of the opinion in this same post.I like to know your opinion and the other members, thank you so much for read and answer my message .
