Richard Wagner, Mozart, Bach , Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, Brahms, Strauss , Louis Armstrong, Cab Calloway, Scot joplin, Benny Goodman and other classical stuff . Why? Because quite frankly, nothing produced in our era really compares to the great old stuff.

With some exceptions , I find many of today musicians to be somehow lacking.

Prince - Purple Rain (new expanded version)

I just picked up the new Purple Rain edition. there are (3) cds and (1) dvd. The cds consist of the original album and unreleased tracks from the period plus b sides and single versions. The dvd is a concert (which I have not had a chance to watch yet). The music and selection of unreleased tracks is great but I'm disappointed with the sound (as I figured I would be). As with most of the modern releases, this one has been brickwalled (very little dynamic range). The reason for brickwalling recordings is probably because so many people listen to music now with cell phones and earphones. With a proper amount of dynamic range, the recordings are probably to low for phones and earbuds so the brickwalled recordings are preferred. But, to an old school guy like me that likes to blast my music through my big speakers and shake my house (and my neighbor's house), ;-D these kind of recordings suck. I wish they could make a separate version for old people. ;-D So anyway my verdict is fantastic release with crappy sound.

Okay, y'all need to stop what you're doing right now and watch my favourite thing on the Internet today: Sting's reaction as Jose Feliciano absolutely butchers Every Breath You Take.

I saw him once! I was working as a barback in a convention hotel and he was in town & came in with his manager. Pretty exciting. There was a small bandstand & he got up & did "Just the Two of Us" and "Ain't No Sunshine Where She's Gone". He must have been on a real Bill Withers kick. I remember he sang "I outta leave them Nashville girls alone, but ain't no sunshine when they're gone ...." :) That got a big cheer. He was taking one double shot of Courvoisier after another! I was young & naïve enough then to be surprised that a blind person would drink like that. It sure didn't affect his performance a bit, he was great! An incredibly gifted individual.

I guess he said poor instead of fool, and he did skip a word or two at the beginning, but other than that, I wouldn't say it was too cringe-worthy. In fact some parts were pretty good. At least he didn't throw anything off-key or off-rhythm/beat .... and co-ordination between pick and fret hands, there are a lot of sloppy soloists out there, but he isn't one of them.
