I just walked a block to the Dollarama and when I entered the parking lot there was an ambulance stopped there with it's lights flashing. I figured that someone had a heartattack or some such thing. Nope. A wee dog had been hit by a car backing out. The paramedics had it on a blanket and were checking it's vitals. Seems the doggie was okay. It may have some bruises but no bones broken or anything. I told the paramedics they were wonderful. I have never seen a people ambulance attending a critter before. Happy ending and made my day.

This was in Canada, staro, yes? I wonder what would happen in the U.S. if someone called 911 about something like that.

I've seen lots of photos of firemen administering oxygen to dogs and cats that they've rescued from burning buildings, and I've no doubt that such acts of kindness are routinely done, thank God. I guess my point above is what the policies are about calling 9-1-1, since...

...This number is intended for use in emergency circumstances only, and to use it for any other purpose (such as prank calls) can be a crime. (Wiki)

"Does the definition of 'emergency circumstances only' include an other-than-human life in danger?" is my question. I wonder if such calls are reserved for the service of human beings only? My guess is that they, unfortunately, are. Maybe it's a silly question, though. Maybe the calls should always be to a vet hospital are animal control. I dunno.
