LOL. Do it up right! Be one of the very last to rent one of these at Central Park... before crazy Mayor de Blasio outlaws the horse-drawn carriage industry in NYC... fulfilling a campaign promise to appease PETA.

I purchased this picture at a car boot sale a few years ago.I bought it because of the building called Champ's to the left of the pic.Champ isn't just my SKMB name, most of my friends call me that as well.I'm going to be visiting the US for the first time in June, going to New York.Does anyone know whereabouts in NY this pic is? Would love to gget my photo taken there.
I recommend Times Square, but at night. It's overwhelming without being too big. You can comfortably see all of it in a short amount of time, then have some great cheesecake.

 Having grown up in the Boston area, I can attest to this being true and it doesn't just apply to out-of-towners. I could walk around without getting lost most of the time but trying to drive with all the one way streets and the streets not being laid out on a grid, it can be a nightmare to get around.
Those teeny tiny, cobbled streets mid town... *shudder* Still my second favorite city (that I've visited) in the US, though :)

No. Flights are booked. Don't know what my mate has planned. Why, have you got a penthouse suite going spare?

I wish! No, I went to see Stephen King, John Irving and J.K. Rowling at a reading in New York many years ago, and stayed at an interesting hotel in midtown Manhattan, walking distance to Radio City Music Hall. I was traveling alone, and felt perfectly safe, although the hotel was chosen because it was pretty inexpensive for its location. It was called the Radio City Apartments. I just checked on their prices, which seem higher, but maybe it's still a good deal compared to others?

Your Brave! I could not imagine going to the city alone! It has it's beauty in it's own way, but scary and so big.

Been there many times, but never alone!

I am not brave - I was scared to death! After the reading was over, it was dark and I was walking the streets, looking for a place to get dinner between Radio City and the hotel. It was August, and there was a garbage strike, so there were huge piles of garbage everywhere and it smelled so bad, and I guess because I was a female walking alone and looking around (instead of looking at my feet like I do when I'm in a familiar city), men kept trying to talk to me. I finally saw a little place that was brightly lit and had pre-made sandwiches and chips and yogurt, and I ran in and bought a mozzarella and basil and tomato sandwich (what do they call those?) and some yogurt, and high-tailed it back to the room. So basically, I saw things on the cab ride to the hotel, Radio City, and a couple of city blocks, and left the next morning - not brave at all!

I remember many years ago my oldest daughter, who was about 12 at the time, had a friend who was terminally ill and had always wanted to visit NYC. I don’t think she ever ventured out of the county other than to go to a hospital in Philadelphia. I told my daughter we would take care of that wish of hers. We took the bus into the Port Authority Bus Terminal – the hairy armpit of the city. Upon disembarking the bus her first taste of NYC was a drunk passed out at the steps of the bus. She screamed thinking he was dead. We went to Times Square, shortly visited an Art Gallery as it interested her, and I had gotten tickets to the taping of the Phil Donahue show. I participated in the segment where the audience asked the guests questions, so she would get on TV... and had the audience booing me. We argued with a beggar, saw crazy people, had breakfast at a street vendor’s cart, and dinner at a swanky restaurant where the prices were large, the portions small, and the food looked like abstract art. She later told my daughter it was the best day of her life.
