A couple of days ago I found a copy of the dead zone at the free/swap library. I picked it up thinking I had it in hard back and I'd read the paperback because they're more comfortable, then pass it back on. Turns out I was thinking of The Dark Half that I have in hard back so now I have 2 paperback copies of dead zone. From a purely aesthetic point of view, which would you keep? I'll give one back to the library.

The left one has a great cover image and is from time Warner, I have 2 others that match the style (different seasons and eyes of the dragon). The right has retro cool appeal and is by futura, I also have 2 others that match the style (firestarter and skeleton crew).

Aesthetically? I'd keep the one one the right because I love the black background with the profile cut-out. I would personally keep the one on the left, however, because it looks less worn. If you're anything like me, I read paperbacks until they fall apart, (I just recently had to replace my paperback of Black House because the old one was held together by duct tape!), and in that line of thought, the left looks like it would keep longer.

Sounds like my original paperback of IT. I have much better condition copy of it now for the next time I read it, but I'd never get rid of that old one with front cover taped on and back few pages also taped on, it's super creased spine, it's fading front cover and metallic font. It was my very first.

I like the one on the right, but why not keep them both?

Well, I guess if it you give it back, someone else may have a chance to read it. Do you know anyone else who would be interested in receiving it as a gift?

The one on the right looks like an older copy so maybe it's worth a little more in value? I just checked to see what copy I have in my collection and it's the one on the right. Mine is a First Futura Edition so it is probably worth a little bit of money?

The left is the more attractive design, but I love the right, with the red eyes. That's the first King book I ever read. My brother had that same paperback and I stole it from him cause the movie was playing at the local cinema and they wouldn't let me in to watch it (I was 11 at the time). I still have that copy, tattered and well-loved. I'm a proud thief.

Yeah, that's the idea of the place. It's called the big little library and it's a project of a local school. You can take any book/s you want for free and they encourage people to donate any unwanted books to them so that someone else will come along and take it for free, and keep the cycle going. As long as people are reading, they are happy.
....I feel I'm right in saying left.....
Very helpful, as ever Scott. :facepalm_smiley:;)

I know nothing about the value of books but I can't see anyone wanting to pay more than a couple of £/$ for either version. The inside copyright page says "first futura publication 1980"
