    Hey, Derek!

I read SK because he has a great way of telling a story.
No matter the characters' ages, genders, situations, moralities, occupations, locations, opinions, or interests, I always find something relateable to my life. I love his inclusion of paranormal story lines, his dialogue, and the come-uppances some of his Bad Guys receive.

Item No. 3 of the Decalogue of the Constant Reader. I read Stephen King because I consider him the past and present of writers of horror..

I read 11/22/63 and I thought it was a great book. He really knows how to make characters interesting. I've only read two of his books, but I plan on reading others. I want to start the Dark Tower series by the end of the year.

Why I can't really explain other than I like his work.

The book that got me hooked on reading was Ice Station Zebra by Alistair MacLean. After reading everything by MacLean I could I branched out to Arthur C. Clarke and Louis L'Amour. Sometime in high school I came across the paperback edition of The Dark Forces anthology by Kirby McCauley. And that opened up a whole new world. I knew of Stephen King at that point, but hadn't read anything by him. I had a cousin who had book of the month club editions of most of his books, and I borrowed them and got hooked. Dark Forces, which I recently reread lead me to a bunch of authors.

Because he is the best. simple as that. His characters and his dialogue is real. They talk and act like people. His ability to make us believe in things that arent. I know they arent but while i read King they are. His way to make us care for the characters. His plots and his ability to find good stories out of almost nothing. A girl getting lost in a forest is suddenly a great story thanks to his way of connecting us to the girl. He has a way to tell a story, any story, that is the best in the writing world today!

His books speak to me in a way that those of most of the other writers I've read don't.

I stick with what works. SK has the best bang-for-your-buck factor, compared to most writers. I've shrugged my shoulders at some of his work, granted, but that's a small percentage. The majority of his craft is top-notch.

For me, why I read Stephen King and keep coming back is because, like a tasty potato chip or favorite piece of candy, while I know the stuff comes from Mr. King I just have to keep coming back for more because of the always present expectation of something that will blow my mind. Does that make any sense? Probably not. Basically, I know the barbecue chip is barbecue because it comes from the bag of barbecue chips but, gosh, don't each chip after the next taste so good? Why can't I stop with just one?:chew:

    Welcome to the board, Derek!

I read Stephen King because he has a great writing style, I am always trying to read as many other authors as I can, but I always come back to Sai King as I start missing his style so much. And yes, he has a unique way of describing characters and their experience, besides his stories are always true-to-life and they reflect things and fears that exist in our lives, too. That's just a different reality, a whole new Universe... That's why I read his books:biggrin2:

I read Stephen King books because I like the stories and the way they unfold from almost nothing until the story just grabs you. Another thing I like is how the characters interact and bond with one another, like ka-tet. It's just the best fiction on the planet!

Each of his books tells a unique story. A lot of characters he created I can connect and relate with. I love how he takes incidents from his real life and makes a scary story out of them.

Stephen is an awesome writer and when I read his work nothing else exists at that moment. . . his writing makes me feel like this:

No other writer does that for me. He's also good at bringing to life the true evil of some people --the pettiness.
