Am is short for America or U.S.A. America, the band, is also Am. My mother's school friend, Ruth, who ended up marrying a Polish American G.I., and moved with him to Chicago, she lives in CHI, Ill, Il. I remember heaps of American soldiers hanging around in the early 1970's as Darlinghurst in not far from King's Cross.
