I collect King's 1st edition hardbacks, other authors I tend to be happy with paperbacks/bookclubs whatever...
Although my Clive Barker books seem to be transforming from paperbacks to 1sts too ( I have no idea how that is happening...especially if my wife asks....)
McCammon's books may have to stay as paperbacks though, as the hardback's seem to be crazily expensive, heck some of the paperbacks are pricey too!!
