Ha! When I read your original post (with the loonie reference) I could totally hear that guy from the junkyard in Stand By Me saying it- Loonie! Loonie! Loonie!

I did actually finish the Gunslinger and near the end I started to like itI think Jon Favreu could do a hell of a job. He 'gets' Westerns and fantasy, and I think the humour would come through better than with Jackson or Nolan.
Neesy, I really don't like THE GUNSLINGER at all, but I loved the next three books--WIZARD & GLASS is in my top 10 of all books ever--and like the rest just fine. Most of what you need to know from TG is repeated in the other books, so not a lot of loss in skipping it, if it's a stumbling point.
The Waste Lands is DT III.I did actually finish the Gunslinger and near the end I started to like it
I have the July 1989 paperback
The next one I will read is "The Drawing of the Three" and it is a paperback from January 1990 (it says Dark Tower II). So is there another book missing between that one and Wizard and Glass (Dark Tower IV) - I know that sounds like a dumb question - sorry!

Thanks kingricefan - I actually said to an American once at a rest stop something like that. He wanted to know what a loonie was (I think the vending machine said it would take quarters or loonies). So I blurted out "A loonie? That is what we call American tourists". (then quickly apologized of course as he didn't look amused). The Waste Lands is DT III.
Seriously? Maybe they've never seen a Quentin Tarrantino movie then? I like Detta's potty mouth.some people have said that the GS. series cant be made "right" because
Detta has such a nasty mouth on her. they would have to leave it
out of the story, which no one wants to do.
The world being the
way it is....You cant say the words Detta does....in the movies...
only in books.
our world is a dam strange place
Loved Drawing of the Three! You'll really like the series, I promise.I did actually finish the Gunslinger and near the end I started to like it

Okay - never mind - update - I just realized I seem to be missing The Wastelands or Dark Tower III (unless it is misplaced somewhere in my collection so I'll have to go check)
Loved Drawing of the Three as well! This is when you realize that you are reading a fantastic Stephen King series!
You will be making Popkins before you know it.
