Oh crapSump pumps are great, unless the power goes out. You then need one of the battery operated ones. I speak from personal experience.

Maybe it will freeze up soon and then I only have to worry about the Spring run-off!Sump pumps are great, unless the power goes out. You then need one of the battery operated ones. I speak from personal experience.
There could be a number of reasons. Blockage should always be looked at first. Can someone please explain to me how there is water in the basement (again! ) and it didn't even rain??!

My mother had this type of problem, even when it’s not raining, but usually after the rain... sometimes days afterward. She was told it was because of the hydrostatic pressure on the basement walls. When water pressure increases around the walls, water leaks into the basement. She couldn’t beat it and had to put in French drains to channel the water, via a sump pump, to a distance that wouldn’t cause water pressure on the walls.
Another thing to check is how the soil is slanting against your foundation. I used to get water down there a lot and then Andy ordered a huge dump truck full of soil. Can someone please explain to me how there is water in the basement (again! ) and it didn't even rain??!
She inquired about it, but was told it’s what separates the real men from the boys. She should have put in English Channels......
Not really. Said if it happens again I should have his boss come in and scope the drain with a camera to see if they can find the problem that way. Thanks for your positive thoughts, though! How did you get on today morgan, has the guy been able to find a solution?
Ugh... wish there had been more of a definitive answer. (What if it isn't the pipes?)Not really. Said if it happens again I should have his boss come in and scope the drain with a camera to see if they can find the problem that way. Thanks for your positive thoughts, though!
I'm in the mindset now that if the whole place sinks or crumbles to the ground, I'll have no choice but to move (out of state, preferably!)!!Ugh... wish there had been more of a definitive answer. (What if it isn't the pipes?)
morgan -- Do you have sink holes in your location? Fl is so prone to them in certain areas.I'm in the mindset now that if the whole place sinks or crumbles to the ground, I'll have no choice but to move (out of state, preferably!)!!
I don't think so!morgan -- Do you have sink holes in your location? Fl is so prone to them in certain areas.
I didn't mean any disrespect to people who have lost their homes! I am grateful to even have a roof over my head at this point - even though it is not mine, I am lucky to have somewhere to stay. I'm just very tired. Only slept for a couple hours last night and not consecutively. I've had to clean up water in the basement dozens of times in the past year. Either the constant moisture or all the bacteria and germs (or lack of sleep) is causing a heaviness in my lungs as well. I've had two very serious cases of pneumonia and my lungs are weak from that and having asthma my whole life too. TMI - sorry.I'm in the mindset now that if the whole place sinks or crumbles to the ground, I'll have no choice but to move (out of state, preferably!)!!
If nothing else you probably have mold, not just mildew.I didn't mean any disrespect to people who have lost their homes! morgan do you notice any black lines, growth on walls, floor, even ceiling/ or a bluish green fussy growth? Does it smell in the basement- not sewage, but like a yucky wet smell?I didn't mean any disrespect to people who have lost their homes!
