Is it The Door In The Floor? I've never seen it (liked Widow For One Year so much that I was afraid that I wouldn't give a half-assed, sort of adaptation a fair chance).
Yes, it is. Couldn't remember if I posted this movie image before. I read the book when it came out and was glad to see a movie was made. It is only the first third of the book where Eddie comes to work for Ted Cole. It is the best adaptation of his work, I think. This is my favorite of all his novels and I would hastily tell you if it stunk. Try to watch it if you get the chance.
I will, now that I have a recommend! I do like Jeff Bridges, and I love John Irving--that's one of my favorite books of his, as well.
The director really got it: the tone, the conflict, the symbolism, etc.
I think it's a work of art, I really do. A very personal adaptation. I'm still hoping someone makes a movie of Last Night at Twisted River. . . for the skydiving scene alone, I never laughed so hard.
