Reached an end to several days of struggle trying to remove an old-fashioned red-flowering Japanese quince bush next to my Ray Bradbury tribute sculpture. I love these bushes but it had to go as I plan to expand the sculpture. I tried a regular shovel, short-handled shovel, and trowel, but couldn't come near reaching the end of the roots. After asking around for anyone who had a riding lawnmower, motorcycle, ATV, tractor, trained pulling mule, or dog sled team, and no takers, I took the shovel again and the clippers. All but the largest piece came out with at least some root. I had three people I thought were interested in having this bush or parts thereof. Two have turned it down and the other I have not heard from yet, so right now it's sitting in a flowerpot till I hear one way or another. I saturated any remaining roots with Roundup and let it soak in well before filling the hole. I never dreamed such a small bush could have such extremely deep roots!
