Did you like desperation? When I read it I felt it was OK, not great, maybe a bit too filled out. It felt like it was dragging on towards the end. I tried to read the Regulators straight after it but yet more of these characters, even though they're different, was just too much. I never finished it.Just finished Rose Madder last night, and I forget how much I love that story until I read it again. I'm thinking of re-reading Desperation before The Regulators gets here in the mail.

Read One Second After in one day. Thanks for the rec, ghost19 ! It was a pretty darn good apocalypse. I like things that ring true, and aside from Forstchen using too many proper names in dialogue (people almost NEVER say the names of others in natural speech unless they are trying to get attention or clarify who they are talking to) and the poorly written romance, it really did that for me. It rang true, and was very pragmatic for the most part. Made me go to bed with a cry headache last night, too--lol. I tried to read the sequel first, because it became available from the library first, but couldn't get into it. I might try again now that I have the background work done.
Exactly! So few books are realistic about medical issues. Even fewer are realistic about how people act in an emergency, or they make the protagonist a saint who would never DREAM of doing the things you'd actually have to do to survive a catastrophe like the one in the book.Glad you liked it ma'am. I'm still in a reading funk so I haven't gotten around to reading the sequel, I didn't know there was one until you mentioned in your original post but it's on my very large TBR pile.
I thought the thing with the main character's daughter being diabetic if I remember correctly was done pretty well. That's one of those things that would definitely come into play if the proverbial ****e hit the fan, unavailability of insulin due to no refrigeration. That was a pretty sad part of the novel I thought.

Yep, you might have to. Eat something you'd rather not? Yep. Strong arm someone to stay alive? Absolutely.
