Yes, I was born in Australia but know that Canada is part of the 'Commonwealth of Nations' I thought Canada was a Republic but looked it up and saw that it still is a Constitutional Monarchy with the Queen as the Head of State. I was going to move to Canada in the late 1980's when I had a Canadian girlfriend.
Technically she is our Head of State - the Governor General is the Queen's representative in Canada and most people like it when any of the Royals visit, especially William and Kate.

But - we are an independent country :cupcake::adoration:

You might think you are an independent country but people see Canada as being the 'little cousin' of the U.S.A. This is understandable seeing population difference and economic and military differences. I'd rather live in Canada because you have universal health care and it seems like a more compassionate country. If I lived in Canada I would like to live in Quebec. They make a lot of movies in British Columbia. Canada would be too cold to live in.

We survive here in Winnipeg and there are times it is minus 40 with a wind chill!

I just looked it up - in 1982 we got our own Constitution which was signed into law by Queen Elizabeth that same year.

Yes - USA is the "Sleeping Giant" to our South and thankfully we are allies - we have the longest "undefended" border in the world :pride:

I just copied and pasted the following from Wikipedia:

"The International Boundary is commonly referred to as the world's longest undefended border, but this is true only in the military sense, as civilian law enforcement is present. It is illegal to cross the border outside border controls. Everyone crossing the border must be checked. The relatively low level of security measures stands in contrast to that of the United States – Mexico border (one-third as long as the Canada–U.S. border), which is actively patrolled by U.S. customs and immigration personnel to prevent illegal migration and drug trafficking."

I was reading some book recently and they reckon during the Prohibition of alcohol in the United Stated there was a great deal of 'sly grog' running from Canada to America. Also something about cigarettes having a different tax or no tax so you brought alcohol down to America and brought cigarettes up to Canada. That is surprising that Canada only got its own Constitution in 1982. You have a Governor General who is supposed to be the Queen's representive. We had a Constitiounal Crisis in Australia in 1975 when the Governor General John Kerr dismissed the Whitlam govenrnment(some say at the behest of the C.I.A. because Whitlam threatened to close Pine Gap and another base and not be such a lackey to America.)

My wife and I loved it. Axl's singing was great on the high and low ends, but his mid-range was starting to show its age. Understandably so. Many folks around us were calling it 'Slash N Roses... with guests'. Slash dominated, absolutely stole the show. They played three hours and twenty minutes, with tributes to Glen Campbell, AC/DC and Chris Cornell.

Good, I heard it was aloud, my friend on the north side by the knee and hip clinic could hear it faintLey

Last day in Hong Kong. Work went until 8:30 at night. More work back in the hotel room. Catching a flight early tomorrow. Will spend much of the five hours aggregate airport time and 16 or 17 hours aggregate plane time working.

Sometimes travel is fun, glamorous, interesting, exciting. And sometimes it ain't.

Day 1 of my disorientation at the new region. Another day + of that nonsense.

Wandered around the area near my hotel. Found an Italian place for dinner. Food so far is pretty good. Not North End in Boston good but better then a lot of other Italian joints I've eaten in.

Greetings to one and all! I've been designing and decorating envelopes (mail art) and writing letters in the old stylish way: using an italic nib fountain pen and parchment paper, it's so satisfying! Unfortunately, it's a dying art and at this time of the year the half of the world is going back to work while the other half is going on vacation. I enjoy trips, but what I really love the most is reading good books, drinking a nice cup of milk tea, and writing soulful letters to my friends all over the world, a vintage hobbie, I know. It's my favorite way to step back from this crazy world. Peace!

Trying to decide the best way to find an all around handyman dude that does yardwork and house stuff that we can't or don't have the knowhow to do...
Also I'm amused at the fact that my middle aged dog just realized that a). flies are buzzy flying flies, b). sometimes they get in the house, c). sometimes they buzz around your head and d). sometimes dogs approaching double digits in age know nothing of these things and spend the next 6 hours slinking around the room like a horrible buzzing entity is silently out to kill them.
