I saw IT last night to a packed crowd, and it exceeded my most optimistic expectations. What a wonderful film: scary, funny, interesting, involving, a great story, and incredible performances. I had goosebumps of fear and happiness at the same time watching it all unfold on the big screen. Bravo!
It's especially a triumph considering what Hollywood has done to so many beloved works in the past, and how movies are being made these days with less emphasis on story and character and too much spectacle. IT manages to avoid all these pitfalls. Think of all the ways this could have gone wrong, and didn't--what an incredible job by all: writer, director, effects, and of course a very talented cast.
So yes, by all means, rush out and see this one in the theater, and take your friends. If you can afford it, go back and see it again. Enjoy the communal experience that makes theatrical films an event rather than just media to be consumed. And let's send a message to Hollywood that we will reward them for making quality films like this! I can't wait for Chapter 2, if it's even half as good as Chapter 1.
