Just a question for the females on the board.

When you were in high school and your female friend picked you up to go hang out, did you guys kiss cheeks when you got in the car? She's just your posse, not a date. Did you peck cheeks?

My friends and I didn't greet each other this way. Maybe this is a younger female thing? When my friends pulled up outside, I got in the car and they handed me a pack of cigarettes and we started plotting how we were going to get beer.

Maybe if I lived in France they might have kissed my cheeks

Dunno - maybe it's a cultural thing? It seems awkward to me

No never. My friends and I were much like you, but we had to go halves on the smokes.

Thanks for the answers you two not_nadine and Neesy . Yeah, I'm reading this book written by a man, younger than me. He is married. Not sure if he consulted with any women on the girl parts, but they just aren't ringing true to my experience and it sort of pulls me out of the story. I'm going to go with this might be a young woman thing, or maybe if he talked to females, maybe the females he talked to did this.

And yes, we all chipped in for that pack of cigarettes. Until the day I got in the car and all of them had been smoked! Then we all started buying our own!

Nope, we said Hello to each other and went on talking about boys, the hateful English teacher, Senior skip day, etc.

Is this a popular or well known book? Is he by chance from Quebec?

Cheek kissing - Wikipedia

I remember being surprised to see girls dancing with each other at parties in Quebec back in the 80s (being from Ontario where we were a bit more strait laced).

Quote from Wikipedia:

"In Québec, cheek kissing is referred to in the vernacular (Québécois) as un bec ("donner un bec") or la bise ("faire la bise"). Whether francophone or other, people of the opposite sex often kiss once on each cheek. Cheek kissing between women is also very common, although men will often refrain. Two people introduced by a mutual friend may also give each other un bec.[citation needed]"

This is how I greet my drag queen friends but I'm more just a hugger with my other friends. Same in high school.
