It's a town in southern Maine with less than 4,000 citizens. It is most likely a volunteer fire department as is the case with many of Maine's towns. If it's anything like mine which also has a volunteer fire department and no police department and we share our ambulance with the adjoining town, there is very little tax revenue other than from residential property taxes, and the majority of the town's budget goes toward school costs. I'm not disagreeing with your point about the necessity of having updated equipment, just offering an explanation of why they may have limited resources and have had to make other choices for where they've spent their money....this is ridiculous!.....not sure of the size of the community-but that should be the first thing a tax levy is used for, is for Fire & EMS......
