How does narrating work? I know this probably depends on the narrator and the work he/she is narrating, but generally, is this a 9 to 5 job with a break for lunch? Do they go in the booth and just read the book all day as many days as it takes? Or is this broken up -- for instance, with Elevation, did Stephen read that in one sitting or was this something he went in for an hour one day, 45 minutes another, 2 hours another? How many days does it take to get the narrators part in the can? (Yes, big books will take longer obviously, but in the scheme of things when a CD says 8 hours of listening, how many days did that 8 hours take)

Of course, that is an example, some books are much longer, some shorter so the time will change.

I'm just trying to get a feel for the narrating process and the narrator's job.

Lots of variables involved including booking the recording studio time, how much time the reader has, etc. For this one, it took about 3 days IIRC and Steve was there for 3 hours the first day and 6 hours the other two with a break for lunch. He recorded Elevation plus his parts in Flight or Fright. My recollection is that it took about a month to do Bag of Bones.

Wow. It's a lot of time to put one of these out. No wonder they cost so much -- but in my opinion, totally worth it.

Thanks for the answers.
