-_- hmm, I’ve never seen police academy, but I bet it has to be a joke relating to police academy except it’s the Children of the Corn cult instead of a police academy

Aldi’s grocery stores are now hiring game hitmen to enter online games and kill as many children as possible so they’re not forced to get off and go to dinner.

“Aldis”, “hire”, “hitmen”, “kill” and “children” are 5 words I’d never thought I would have to use in a coherent sentence, but low and behold, here we are.

This is gonna end quickly for sure, these “hitmen” are going to end up flooding servers and become abusive and annoying to people legitimately trying to enjoy the online experience , leading to them being banned, but this is sure as hell going to be fun to watch while it lasts. If by “professional gamers” they just mean a bunch of basement-dwelling online trolls, I’d not be surprised. You have to be real petty to accept money in exchange for hunting children down to ruin their fun in an online form of entertainment.
How are they even gonna tell who’s a child and who needs to come down for dinner? You can easily turn off voice chat in online games, meaning it’s pretty anonymous. I don’t think Aldis is capable of using spyware against children.

If your child really is not coming down for dinner because of an online game, just turn off the internet.

Not to mention you can easily join another lobby.

Who even shops at Aldis, again? I sure don’t.

....I do....you’ll understand when you’re older and having to juggle a budget between pay checks....

Oof, I never see many cars at the Aldis near me. Maybe because it’s awkwardly placed in town, but it just kind of seemed like a store floating around in the Twilight Zone
Also there aren’t many I’ve seen in the area. Here in Texas, at least in Houston and it’s surrounding cities, there’s H-E-B’s everywhere, and I mean everywhere. Aldis are probably more common in other states.

I don't know what an Aldis store is, but I did think it was a crack-up idea... I've definitely been through the 'Oy kid, it's tea-time... just get yourself killed and log out'. So... yeah, funny thought to be hiring someone to 'off' yer kid to get them to the table. (I wouldn't personally go that far, but it did make me chuckle.)

They probably aren’t even accounting for time zones on international servers. Just think of all the poor European kids being ruthlessly slaughtered while the North American kids are having dinner. One day parents will understand the inability to pause online games, one day.

Yep, I really must get more into the habit of providing a better countdown to the kid... "*George, dinner will be ready in 30 minutes, don't start a new battle unless you can finish in half an hour or less."
*Names may have been fabricated.

Jah, even more annoying back when I had to take daily medication over a three-four year period (No, I did not need it to live). I don’t even play many online games, I’m a fan of plot-centric RPG’s and Strategy Games, though I’ve recently gotten really into the Bullet Hell genre.

It does help to see it from the other side, I think I'll keep this more in mind and work on my... and his timing.

Speaking of online gaming, I remember when my mother forced me to delete my 100+ Club Penguin friends one-by-one becuse she’s a firm believer that everyone on an online kid’s game is a registered sex-offender. F-cking hell Club Penguin was so over sensitive to information sharing anyways, going as far as to censor all numbers for the chance they might be a phone # or address. You never even really interacted with your Club Penguin friends anyways, you sent a friend request because you liked their penguins outfit or they sent you a nice card. She told me how they could find out about my address and real name from hacking my profile. Completely oblivious to a majority of these players being other 7-9 year olds.

Okay, Mrs. I-post-everything-on-Facebook. I’m better at remaining anonymous online than she is.

I miss Club Penguin. I saw an article about a couple that met on it recently getting married, how cute.

Your Mum and I could almost be.... twins. ;;D I do get frequent eye-rolls from my 11-year-old for being completely over the top about his online security. I seldom post things on FB though, I'm more of a FB stalker than sharer. :biggrin2:

See, it’s annoying because my mother is oblivious to how I feel about anything regardless of how much I try to tell her. I tell her I don’t want to be posted about, and she’s ignores me and tells me she doesn’t post that much. A good friend of mine created an account just to see how much our mother’s post stupid information and what-d’ya-know, they update everyone whenever we’re sick. This is a horrible thing to do too, it leaves no moments between ourselves and instead just capsulates our lives in meaningless pictures on the internet. This is why I don’t like such self-centered social medias. If your child actually tries to tell you something about how they feel a certain way about your parenting style and you just laugh it off or use your authority as an excuse, then you aren’t raising your child to feel confident or be able to make decisions.

Hmm, I'm sorry that happens to you. :(
I have always kept my kids off social media as much as I could. I never posted photos of their faces, especially when young. They kind of took that out of my hands as they grew and got profiles of their own--my authority over that waned more and more as they grew. My youngest has tried to make FB accounts a number of times and I've found them and deleted them all, I told him he has to wait until he's 13... minimum. And I will be a douche about it and stalk his butt to make sure he's making good choices when he is eventually allowed an account.
But I will definitely try to listen to his point-of-view, because as you say... we want our kids feeling confident and able to make their own good decisions as they grow.

I don’t advise stalking your kids either, it’s important for them to have private escapism. Teaching them about online safety is what’s important, and not the overdramatic everybody-is-your-enemy type deal.
