You’re right about Florida grass being different... tough stuff. I once played a round of golf at Don Shula’s golf club and the play on that grass took some getting used to. I think they said it was Bermudagrass, but I'm not sure. On one hole I skied the ball and it actually “bounced” off the water of a small canal. When I was walking over the bridge I saw why… a large manatee was cruising up the canal that my ball must have hit and bounced off of. Saved me a penalty stroke.

I got the new battery mower home Sunday. I charged up both batteries and decided to try it out before giving it to the father-in-law. The rear-wheel-drive function is pretty cool and you can manually adjust the speed to what you want, but the 2 second delay before it kicks into gear will take a little getting used to. But the mower blades didn’t work. I thought… great now I have to return the damn thing. Decided as a last option to read over the manual. I was doing it wrong, it appears you have to hold down the engage handle before pushing the button to start the mower, and then release it. Will try that out tomorrow evening. I hate when I have to revert to reading manuals... These kind of things should just come naturally to guys. :)

Ryobi makes an 18V shop vac. I don't think that would work too well but I'm waiting to see if they come out with a 40V. I think a 40V shop vac would be worth getting. I always seem to need a shop vac in places where the power is a long way away. Plus the cord is always a pain in the butt.

I have people keep coming in the home improvement center all the time looking for the old 18-volt batteries. They go into sticker shock and complain when they see the batteries run about $40 a pop for the Black and Decker one. They say it would be cheaper just getting a new power tool with a 20-volt lithium battery. I tell them... "You're right!"

I know they make 20-volt and 24-volt shop vacs, but they're kinda small. Haven't seen a 40-volt one yet.

The top notch Ryobi 18v batteries with the high MA sell for $99 in the store. You can go on their website and buy a two pack for $99 but they don't sell that 2 pack in the stores.

The difference between the batteries that come in the box with the tools and these top notch batteries you can buy separately is tremendous.

Just don't put the old 18-volt style battery on a new lithium charger. I did that once after a couple of scotch and sodas. Killed the dang thing. :(

I had an old 1/2" drill that took the 18-volt battery. When I killed the battery I had one of my daughter's get me a replacement battery for Christmas. Then the drill died. I can never win. :(

I've had my eye on the Ryobi 40v for a while and I'm waiting to for someone I know to buy one first to tell me how they like it. :) I have had good experiences with Ryobi cordless tools for many years. One of the awesome things about them is that the tools don't get obsolete. If you have a 15 year old tool, the batteries they make today will work on them. Even the newer lithium chargers will accept the old ni-cad batteries. They have a lot of household products that work on their batteries too like stick vacuums etc. Whenever I'm looking for cordless, I always try Ryobi first just because of the compatibility of all the products.

I have a 40v Ryobi weedeater and it is awesome. I have an edger attachment with the weedeater that works great too. It's as good as a gas powered weedeater. The 18v weedeater is functional but just not powerful enough. The 40v is great. The 40v hedge trimmers are pretty good too (not quite as good as gas but almost).

If you know anyone that has one of these Ryobi mowers, post a review for me. :)
Perhaps, I need this weedeater?......

I am getting a bit annoyed... and fell like I am in a rute due to me being unemployed. For close to a year and also local news.. we are getting ready for an election and it’s causing me to get scared. Ps I live in western canada
Hi Hill Lover, I live in Western Canada as well and if I got fired from my job today I'd be screwed! My experience lives in the past and everything has changed on me, also, I couldn't even dig a ditch as my body ain't what it used to be. I remember when I was between my last job and this one. I got laid off and my mother was dying so I went back home to carry everything through and help her when I could. Once all was over and done with and I was back looking for work I realized that jobs are hard to find. I almost lost my house but the company I work for now hired me right before everything came tumbling down. I was even showing up to a day labour place on Main Street every day at 5AM and getting what I could. I had no pride and no shame. I hope you don't give up, just keep swinging and trying your best to be gainfully employed. If worse comes to worse then please go to the welfare board. Hopefully you have friends and family to support you. I wish you the best for 2019! I have 2 words that may or may not help. LOTTO MAX! :)
