I'm bummed today because I just got released from the company I've worked for the past 15 years. The shares were dropping like flies and I was one of the few that got sent west. I'm both scared and excited, but still in shock. Hopefully I'll be able to land on my feet. I'll be 58 this year and I suspect the competition is fierce out there. Considering retirement but need to seek council before any decisions are made. Maybe I'll celebrate/drown my sorrows as a first step. :smile-new:
I guess I'll need to re-memorize my math times tables in order to be more competitive. Maybe I should just quit...no...wait...they already let me go...forget that last line. I think that at the end of the day it's...well...fair.

Can't "like" this. I'm so sorry this has happened to you. Is the company going under altogether or just laying off some of its employees to save some money while they wait for things to turn around again?

....old friend, I am so sorry.....no-one deserves this when they've given so much of themselves to a business, but sadly-their is no loyalty to employees like there used to be....you and I are the same age, and it's frightening for sure......unless you are well set financially, I wouldn't take an early retirement and drain your resources.....look into local job services, because if your area is anything like mine-employers are starved for older, reliable workers-instead of idiots that can't pass a piss test or understand they have to SHOW UP for work to get a paycheck......

That sucks!! But you are smart as a whip, and will land firmly on your feet.. in the meantime, it's almost St Patrick's Day weekend, so hoist a few well deserved brews, reflect on your past accomplishments and moments at work, and next week is soon enough to start thinking of a new job..

Much better thank you! Had a few minor setbacks, it was a pretty major incident, but has come through swimmingly.. her case was written up in a medical journal magazine for doctors due to the coincidences of everything happening with perfect synchronization from the inital response by the fire and ambulance people to her treatment through the hospital..

I'm glad she is doing better. I am sorry it happened to her, I hate that it happened to her -- and her friends and family too. But, if there is a silver lining, that is amazing that her story could save countless lives by being written up in the journals. That's pretty cool. I'm sure they'd probably trade that "cool" for not cool if they could.

I hope that came out in the respectful way I meant it.

Thanks for the vibes Spidey. If I can rely on my old tap dancing skills then I'm sure I could 'busk'.
