From the reports this afternoon, my bridge is not in danger of imminent collapse but still the news isn't good. Where the chunk of concrete fell off the bridge, you can see rust on the steel cable which means water is getting in where it shouldn't be. When the cable rusts, the concrete breaks away. I've seen that happen in buildings with rebar. When rebar gets wet and starts to rust, the concrete will break away from the rebar. You've probably seen collapsed concrete balconies or canopies before and rusting rebar is the culprit in many cases.

Anyway, the Southbound span is closed indefinitely and they will be inspecting the north bound span. I heard that there are issues with the North span too. So, we are probably looking at a long term traffic headache. (Of course a headache is better than falling into the river)
Seen any mothmen circling over it?

I think there are very few of us that havent been lured away from sleep by this board. It has that enchanting enigma to it that keeps you awake against your will.
It's true! And I first tuned in to the SKMB in 2004, this means that I haven't slept properly for.... [counting] 16 years!
No wonder I look this old!

As of this morning both spans of the bridge have been closed. Cracks have been found in both spans. The engineers say it's repairable but there is no timetable on how long it will be. There are a lot of businesses on both sides of this bridge that are already having a hard time because of covid. The bridge closing is some extra hurt for them. One of my alternate routes has two bridges with draw spans. Extra traffic + draw spans = long time sitting in truck.

Tomorrow is Mid Summers eve here. At least the day we celebrate it in. Much more celebrated than Easter. If Christmas is the big family holiday this is the big get together in big groups holiday, sing, drink, and dance ridicolous dances. around what is clearly the symbol of an erect penis but about 4 meters high. This day traditions from before christianitys arrival are very much alive!!! I'll love it. (probably not a coincidence that most children are sired at this time of year.....)
