I have not watched it. Yet. But I will. I would rather see it myself before I judge.

When I read Stephen King...he is able to write in a manner that I can *see* the story in my minds eye. His words allow me to see the story unfold in my head. The words/story is so powerful (No. Not kissing azz.) it is very easy to see it. I am THERE. The feelings, emotions and the very real trepidations...and suspense.

Is it any wonder that the details and nuances cannot be readily or easily be *caught* in film?

JMO.

Another problem is that they are just some peoples opinions. We all have them, I have read reviews of films that the critics have raved about but left me bored senseless. Like you I shall watch and judge for myself but whether it be good or bad no doubt it will be added to my collection.

Not sure how they've seen it already, but a mate of mine watched it t'other evening. She really enjoyed it, said it stays pretty faithful to the story, but perhaps not quite the same level of slow burning terror. I can't wait to go see this.

Haven't read the reviews, but I have watched the movie.

It was okaaaay and I did like it...but overall I felt pretty deflated when it finished. Maybe I just had high expectations?! It did stick close to the original story, though, which is always a bonus but I felt it was lacking in suspense.

I think so many books (SK's in particular) just don't evoke the same intensity onscreen. Someone made a bookmark and showed it to us in the crafts posts that said "Don't judge a book by it's movie". So true. Loved that bookmark idea!

I don't like to watch movies on my laptop. I need to get one of those netgear things to make it show up on the TV.

I'll get back here after I've had a chance to watch it.

...can't stand reviews....most of which, IMO, are written or voiced by wanna-be writers, producers, directors etc....movie viewing is so subjective, and basically-as others have stated-opinions will be as diverse as those watching...most times, I can find something to enjoy in a film-even if it's this....

The director did not invoke the suspense as Mr. King's words did.

I usually don't care about the reviews, if I want to watch a movie, I prefer to have my own opinion, without it being influent by others' reviews.

As for A Good Marriage, I don't know why there are bad reviews, I watched the movie on Saturday and I thought it was pretty good, as good as it could be. I think the story is not that easy to be put on screen, as there is not really much action in it, but the movie is done well, it is not boring... And I liked the way they showed the thoughts of the woman. I think it is a good movie, not superb, but alright.

Okay, I watched A Good Marriage this afternoon and I have to say it was pretty good. So it wasn't amazing, but it was certainly very well done. I agree with Lina's comment - because there wasn't a lot action in the story, it was always going to be difficult to pull off, but it worked. Both actors, Anthony LaPaglia and Joan Allen were really good in their roles and did the story justice.

Now, we await Big Driver, to see what that will be like

Never trust a reviewer. If something appeals, you should watch it no matter what others say. That being said I wasn't overly impressed with this. It all seemed to happen rather quickly with no chance to engage with the characters. Only for it to then feal very rushed towards an ending that works very well for a written story but fell flat as a movie ending. it had masses of good potential but didn't live up too it in my opinion.

I went to the theater in Tampa to see this Saturday. I liked it. It was slow. But that was the nature of the story. The problem this had was translation from a medium that can detail the minutiae of inner dialogue and struggle into one that relies solely on either facial expression or soliloquy to convey the same emotion. That can be possible in smaller doses, but a huge chunk of this story was the wife's struggle. Filling a feature length film with that and not much "action" is difficult to say the least and probably where this fell flat for some. But overall, it was well made and acted and followed the story pretty close. I was glad to be able to see it in one of the limited release theaters.

I saw the movie and didn't care for it much. I found the husband blah. Not even a hint of evil gleam in his eye. Joan Allen has either had a bad plastic surgery job or a glandular condition that has puffed her face to the point it detracted from her great acting job. WTF with the friggin foreshadowing in the first scene???? Even the book didn't do that. And the neighbor lady? What was the purpose of that? I just don't get it. I was disappointed on so many levels with this one.

I thought the scene where he nonchalantly addresses her discovery was a bit chilling. But beyond that I can see what you mean.

Movie was well acted. Kudos to Joan Allen and Anthony LaPlagia.

Unfortunately the director has no sense of how to stage and frame shots to build and maximize tension so the movie was sooooooo flat.

Ok when it should have been great.

Well, I dont trust reviewers. I dont even trust my friends' reviews It is a totaly subjective thing and you really have to have the same taste with somebody for a review to make total sense or be accurate. That said, I didnt like it. The actors were good, cant say they weren't. But I thought it dragged its feet. I found it boring, it didnt engage me and there was not even a hint of a thrill -even if I already knew what was going to happen. I am not very picky or of refined taste in movies but I found this adaptation lacking in almost all aspects.

I rarely read or trust reviews. As has been said If you're interested in something just go see it. Why is someone elses opinion better than mine just because they manage to get paid? BUT, sometimes SK doesn't translate well to the screen because the atmosphere you get from reading and the picture in your head just don't add up to whats on screen. Sometimes it's down to the director. Sometimes it's down to things being better left on the page.
