here is what the son has done in the teen group so far.
Under the Dome is among the books our library has on display for the program this year, I guess because it has a science-fictiony flavor. In between patrons I've been scooping up offerings by Douglas Adams, John Scalzi, and Nancy Kress to add to the pile.
In the adult program you receive entrees for each thing you draw it that qualifies. You then enter to win a basket of different things or enter into the Grand prize Drawings.

We're offering the choice of either a Kindle Fire or a telescope. The kids also get to choose from a telescope, Lego set...and a bike, among other things.
Our Grand prizes are a Grill and the other one is an outside bench swing that seats 3. Not sure what the teens can win and of course the childrens get different age type toys they can pick from.
My kids are not doing the reading program this year but they did go last week to a Hogwarts themed escape room in the library teen room. They had a huge turnout. Ty and Ali's group won a prize but they have to wait for a phone call to go pick it up.
Ali is reading up a storm so far she has read 6 books since school got out. Ty and Evan, none. I tried to get Ty to check some books out last week when they were there, they had lots of time to kill before it was their turn. He enjoys reading and reads well, it is just never going to be his go-to pastime, though.

I worked in a library for 2 years when I was in high school. My brother got me that job because he had worked there before me. It didn't pay very much, but it gave me work experience and prepared me for working in an office. It also helped me to become acquainted with the best authors of our time. I used to be in charge of the Summer Reading Club. Stephen King worked in a library too, which is where he met his future wife.
