It started because I was desperate for something to read and someone had given me the first 3 books in the series. My first impression was not positive. I'm not into detective novels or wizards, so all the way through the first book I'm wishing I had something better to read. Fairies and ghouls and archangels, oh my, this is some shlocky rubbish here. I finished it, though, at least it held my attention well enough and it wasn't teenage romance. I took a break to read Dr. Sleep and NOS4A2, which made it even harder to consider going back to the corny series.
After a week or so holding out with nothing to read, I dove back in. Its easy to read, no thinking required, so the second novel went down fast and I picked up the third. Before I was halfway through I was hooked. I cared about these silly characters. I wanted to know what happened to them.
I still do, having just finished inhaling the 13th book. I'm very much looking forward to finishing the 14th before the new one comes out in February.
Anyone else share my unfortunate addiction?
