I might've said it before, but maybe part of the movie's meaning is that there's nothing certain except death and rollercoasters (nostalgia, that is, even more so than taxes)

He can't help, as with any author, but invest some part of himself, however small or great, in the characters he writes about, and translates into screenplay ...

Stephen King is probably my favourite author (in that I like both the general area he covers and also his style) and it is always interesting to see filmed adaptations of his work. Not always enjoyable, but always interesting. The problem is that it is easy to capture the physical events of his stories, but the best part of the writing is what goes on in the heads of the character.

Couldn't agree more. King is my favorite author for the same reasons and that's pretty much my assessment of why the film adaptations are so hit or miss. Or it's one of the reasons, it depends on the movie/book. Sometimes the story itself isn't as important as the way he tells it. And since the story Riding The Bullet is basically King doing his take on a classic ghost story, it kind of goes double for this one I think. For that idea alone I was pretty skeptical about the movie but this lady I work with was raving about it and I finally watched it a few months ago. I didn't hate it, and it had its moments, but I wasn't crazy about it either. I think the main problem was that I didn't really like the main character that much and the beginning felt like an episode of That 70s Show.
