The queen of teen angst songs "It's My Party", "You Don't Own Me", Lesley Gore, died yesterday of lung cancer, only age 68. RIP Lesley, may you be at rest in the land of Sunshine, Lollipops & Rainbows.

Y'know, that song 'It's my Party' and its, er...sequel, 'Judy's Turn To Cry'? They've always driven me nuts. Why? The 'Johnny' in both songs. First, he makes out with Judy--Lesley's best friend--at Lesley's party. What a jerk. Then in 'Judy's Turn', she gets Johnny back by making out with some other guy, whom which Johnny punches to get Lesley back.
All the while she's angry at Judy (understandably), but never questions her beloved Johnny's loathsome behaivor. I think Johnny needed a kick in the pants. I'm surprised they didn't make it a trilogy, call the third song 'Now Johnny Wants A Threesome (with Judy and Me--doo do do do!)'.
Hate punks like Johnny.

Thats a great song. Loved Joan Jetts version.. But the most hilarious one is this one.
But Leslie got the last laugh since she was a lesbian all along and Johnny was just a "beard." It was Judy she was really after!
You know, that song was one of my moms favourites. But she heard it most often in Joan Jetts version.
