Greetings all. This is my first post on this board. I just finished Doctor Sleep. I think it's King's best novel in many years.
I have read most of King's books, beginning with Salem's Lot, which I stumbled across 30-odd years ago on the paperback shelf of a Publix supermarket in Miami, Florida.
In Doctor Sleep, I detect elements of Firestarter and Carrie (both featured girls with incredible psychic power pursued by bad guys), The Dead Zone (tormented older guy cursed with psychic power) and that episode in old Twilight Zone TV series about the little boy (played by Billy Mumy) who could control what was on TV. Then there's a connection with 'Salem's Lot (mentioned briefly) and the town of Castle Rock (mentioned at least once and also the setting for The Dead Zone among others). I'm sure there are other references to the King mythos in Doctor Sleep which I missed.
