Newsweek is reporting that a prequel to The Shining is in the works as a movie based off of the book. I have found nothing regarding SK ever writing a prequel to The Shining. What am I missing here??

There was a section excised from the original manuscript entitled "Before The Play" that was published in a small press magazine called Whispers. You can find copies on the secondary market but they're scarce and pricey. You can also find a somewhat revised edition that was published in TV Guide magazine around the time that the television miniseries was aired. This edition won't cost you an arm and a leg. Cemetery Dance publisher also released a limited edition of The Shining and it includes BTP and also the very short "After The Play", a long lost original ending that King thought was gone forever and someone that worked at Doubleday discovered a short while ago.
...welcome John!.....I can't see BTP expanding to a movie, but nobody gives a hang about my opinion....
Sounds good! I'll watch it. I'm also waiting for the Blair Witch prequel. (What did happen on Coffin Rock that day?).
I'm not sure the movie prequel will follow Before the Play, or be written totally anew.

Actually, when you think about it, isn't yellow a strange colour for the poster of The Shining. Yellow doesn't feature much in the film and in any case it's such a light and happy colour for a horrorfilm.

If you could get your hands on the Cemetery Dance version of "The Shining" (currently out of print and is being sold for insane prices online) there is a little intro titled "before the play" I don't personally own one so I can't tell you what you'll get from that
