No one has mentioned him as i can recall but he is worth to be remembered. If we can remember M.R. James and his Ghost stories and Stokers Dracula we ought to remember works like Green tea, Carmilla, Justice Harbottle and several others. Wrote some ghost stories too. Stokers Van Helsing is clearly inspired by Le Fanus Hesselius character. He is not out to scare you. Le fanu is more interested in describing the occurrence of supernatural phenomena and how it effects his protagonists psyche (that can of course be scary). Carmilla is probably, to my knowledge, the first leading female Vampire. He collected five of his best stories in the collection "In a Glass Darkly". Can be recommended. Written ca 1870. He also wrote one good mystery, Uncle Silas, Another good one is The House by the Churchyard. one of the main sources, perhaps the most important source for James Joyces Finnegans Wake.

Amen, brother. Absolutely shelf worthy, ol Sheridan. Carmilla is one of my faves, a perfect example of Victorian Vampire horror. I'd recommend it to anyone interested in bloodsucker fiction--the good, vintage stuff, anyways. Hits all the sweet spots, you might say.
