...this is ridiculous!.....not sure of the size of the community-but that should be the first thing a tax levy is used for, is for Fire & EMS......
Maine fire department ordered to 'stand down' over old gear
It's a town in southern Maine with less than 4,000 citizens. It is most likely a volunteer fire department as is the case with many of Maine's towns. If it's anything like mine which also has a volunteer fire department and no police department and we share our ambulance with the adjoining town, there is very little tax revenue other than from residential property taxes, and the majority of the town's budget goes toward school costs. I'm not disagreeing with your point about the necessity of having updated equipment, just offering an explanation of why they may have limited resources and have had to make other choices for where they've spent their money.

Odd that they have to stand down. Seems like regulations gone amok. Pump, water, hose? I don't think our community fire department, which is a volunteer dept, has any equipment less than 10 years old. They do a great job fighting fires. I live one mile from the fire house and have given them permission to use my pool water in an emergency to fill their tanker truck.

It sounds to me like it might have been a safety issue for the firemen as it was about their personal gear, i.e. jacket, pants, helmets, and boots.

Could be. Our local volunteer firefighters would never accept a stand down order, no matter what. They'd fight fires with buckets of water if it came down to it.

If that town is anything like mine, their neighbors will be more than happy to help out while they get the situation straightened out with the equipment and wouldn't want their fellow firefighters to be put in danger from possible faulty equipment that could endanger their lives.

I donate two two fire departments... Our local one and to another because our's doesn't provide ambulance service. I also participate in fund raising events. Our local communities sound a lot like yours. But new fire equipment is extremely expensive and ours usually buys used equipment.

That may be one of the options they're looking into. Stephen and Tabitha's charitable foundation has donated a lot of money to fire departments in communities like this for this very thing. It sounds like they'd be good candidates to apply for a grant.

...I gotcha.....just knee jerk reaction.....my town is about 3 times the size of that one, and one of the almost lead pipe locks is when a levy for the Fire Department goes on the ballot.....difference being, is these guys are paid....

Happy Monday, Tet.

I am babysitting and doing some cleaning. It is about naptime, so break time for me! :applause:

Not much to report. Night shift time...we sent Scott to work with an empty lunch box on Saturday night. I thought Evan packed it and he thought I did. Whoops!! Snowed yesterday again but streets look like they have melted off pretty decent today.

Hope you are having a great day! Big hugs and positive vibes to all! :love_heart:
