I watched the movie yesterday. Unfortunately, have not read the story, so I can't compare it to the movie. As for the movie, that was strange, and creepy. My first thought was that it reminded me of Children of the Corn, I thought: wow, Mr. King is truly scared of all kinds of grass 
It was interesting to watch, though it seemed a little too slow in the beginning. And I just love Patrick Wilson in each movie he is in.
