...in lieu of having a big-azz facility on a lakeshore for this years Kon, as we did in Maine-I'm thinking about a Saturday "everybody grubs together" gathering at the Golden Corral in Mansfield....plenty of food, and they have a banquet room I could check on availability for, if the majority would be interested...
In Bangor, we dined on the best seafood in the world. In Ohio, it's Golden Corral. :p

ALAS, the Midwest isn't known for SEAFOOD, however FINE down home cooking is a MUST! While I consider myself a HUGE SK FAN, my MOM would have LOVED all of this so MUCH MORE, she's the 1 that got me STARTED, I'd say she probably OWNED MOST of SK's works, and probably READ almost ALL of them up until she PASSED a bit over 2 years ago! We would've LOVED MAINE, how was DERRY, run into any CLOWNS, or the LIKE last year? :)

No, but I did get a small piece of the standpipe. Paul Bunyan stayed put, too.

I grew up in Oklahoma so I know home cooking. Golden Corral isn't exactly it... unless you live in a rest stop bathroom that is. :p

Ahhh, I do amuse myself at times

Are there pancakes involved? Golden Corral sounds like a pancake joint to me - I think they used to have one in Toronto.

I am so out of touch with things these days. I will just go crawl back under that rock for now and Google Golden Corral later.

Yes - sure - whatever works best for all is good with me! :apple: :strawberry: :peach:

Beware Ohio---
I've been apartment hunting for my daughter in Memphis - midtown, downtown, on the edge of some sketchy areas. So whilst looking at one I really liked, I asked a neighbor if she felt safe there - if the neighborhood was a good one. And she said, "It's all safer than Ohio", and walked on. Hmmm, not sure what to make of it. Careful sleeping in your car at rest areas then!
Oh pshaw - I ain't scairt!

You must have inside information on my kids...both of my girls are big fans of the Golden Corral!

We're leaning towards getting a cabin instead of a hotel, just for fun. And a cabin could be more doggie friendly if we decide to take Miska along.

Golden Corral isn't exactly what I meant, they aren't bad, I live in MISSOURI, out in the STIX, I was raised on good home cooking!
:)
I've spent a ton of time in Mizzou. I lived around Tulsa most of my life so Joplin and Springfield were regular stops. Also camped a lot on Table Rock Lake outside Branson. Also used to go KC a lot.

Neesy Golden Corral is a Western Themed restaurant more akin to Applebees, or TGIFridays, something like that! :)

Okay - I did see something about a chocolate fountain? Anyway, we are not there to be gourmets (or gourmands), just to meet up. Golden Corral is not etched in stone yet but like I said - I am easy! (but I am not cheap haha) No seriously I am happy to go with the majority - we can take a vote. I just appreciate Scott trying his best to organize something that will be good for everyone!

I'm with you, I don't mind Golden Corral at all, I've had Better, but I've had way Worse! Like you said though, It's about the GATHERING & FELLOWSHIP, not the eatery! :)

The SAME could be said for Denny's, Shoney's, Ryan's Steak House, or any of the rest of the Buffet Diners! Americans are mostly all becoming GLUTTONS! What is G.O.M.E.R.s? :)
Gomers are from the book written by a doctor about becoming a doctor. Every doctor I know ( I worked for doctors) said this book was the most representative (at the time, 24 years ago) of what it was like learning to be a doctor. House of God by Dr. Samuel Shem.

Gomers means: Get out of my emergency room. And it's people they knew as soon as they came in the door were going to be trouble one way or another. Usually senior citizens, but not limited to that group. And I guess, apparently Gomers were notorious for going down due to stroke, heart attack whatever. They believe they should just be allowed to die in peace instead of heroic medical measures.

...then someone make a suggestion...it's the only family oriented restaurant with a banquet facility in that area that I can think of....can't and won't do a place that serves liquor since there are going to be young kids...jokes are fine, but helpful suggestions would be better-I'm just one dude...
